About Wallbank Trophy

The Lytham Club Day 'Arts & Literature' Wallbank Trophy, is open to local school children, year 6 pupils 10/11 years of age. The Trophy was donated for use of a children's entry in 1999 by Raymond Wallbank in memory of his late wife Gillian.

2000 entries were Millenium Poems, judged by the Wallbank Committee. 2001 entries were drawings / paintings judged by Artist Tom Eccles. Tom is a painter with national & international reputation and his work is much sought after, both in this country and abroad. He is well known for his Christmas Cards depicting scenes from around Lytham and we are extremely grateful for the rights to turn one of his paintings of Lytham Club Day into greetings cards. 2002 entries were essays judged by the Holt Jackson Books Social Committee. Holt Jackson donated the books that the winners receive. 2003 entries were photographs, judged by professional photographer Peter Owen. 2004 were costume designs for a Club day mascot, judged by Stageworks Worldwide Production designer Simone. 2005 entries were once again poems, judged by members of the Committee. In 2006 the competition was to paint a picture that captures the spirit of Club Day. In 2007 the competition was to design a flag that depicted Lytham Club Day, this was then made and is now carried in the procession. Our most recent competition wsa to design a float in a shoe box. It was judged by Nicola Partington, a Year 1 teacher from Manchester. We received over 40 entries from budding artists and never realised we had such talented children in our midst.

All the competition entries can be seen on display at Lytham Library, the month before Club Day. Although the exhibition finishes at the end of June, Lytham Library will be pleased to show you the file containing the children's poems / paintings / essays - just ask at the desk.

Next year's competition is slightly easier!
We would like budding photographers to take an alternative view of Lytham Club Day

Good luck everyone and keep up the good work.
Thank you again to schools, children and parents for keeping this competition alive and kicking.

Our thanks to Holt Jackson Books for providing books as prizes.
